Why is MYOB so slow?

It could be clogged.

Keep the size of your MYOB database as small as possible by clearing print queues regularly, and setting default preferences.

As a software program, MYOB is determined to have the user print the equivalent of a small forest in remittances, cheques and orders. In furtherance of this goal, your software keeps all such documents in a print queue until they have been removed – making your database bigger (read, slower) than it needs to be.
